ADAPTABILITY BY DESIGN

When engineers and designers collaborate harmoniously on a project, they work in synergy, and often achieve results which far exceed the sum of their individual efforts and abilities.

The innovative new multi-purpose vehicle from Citroën demonstrates such synergy in automobile design. Its ingenious, flexible interior layout offers a far larger amount of passenger and load space than its compact exterior dimensions would suggest, and so provides far greater versatility than any conventional saloon or estate.

COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE

An exciting motoring concept, Synergie gives you the freedom to do what you please and go where you please, whenever it pleases you.

Change your plans, and the Synergie's accommodation plan changes too. An ingenious modular seating system with 52 separate anchorage points allow you to make innumerable variations in its interior layout. In fact, the seats can be reorganised or even removed entirely in minutes. There's a choice of either five or seven places on LX and SX models or six places on the VSX.

Access for passengers and baggage is unimpeded, thanks to the large tailgate and the two sliding side doors. And once seated, headroom, legroom and elbowroom for all on board is unrestricted, making for a remarkably calm and restful travelling environment.

And yet for all its practicality, the Synergie is an impressively stylish and comfortable means of transport.

Its seats are specially constructed to provide firm but relaxing support and are upholstered with cloth or velour fabric which has been selected for its attractive, as well as enduring, good looks. For the well-being of children aged 3 to 10 years, optional child seats are available on all models.

Additionally, headrests on all seats are ergonomically designed to ensure maximum comfort, whilst on the SX and VSX models all windows are electrically operated for maximum convenience.

But it's Citroën's attentions to the smallest details which make travelling in Synergie so comfortable and such good fun....

THE PERFECT ENVIRONMENT

With its panoramic windscreen, large rear window and its deep side windows, the new Citroën Synergie is a remarkably spacious, light and airy vehicle to travel in. Great efforts have been made to enhance vehicle ergonomics and the enjoyment of everyone on board especially the driver.

The smooth, sculpted one-piece dashboard displays all instruments and warning lights clearly and visibly and all switchgear and heating and ventilation controls are easily within reach. The dash mounted gear lever for example is perfectly placed for precise and rapid hifts and, as a bonus, leaves the floorspace between the front seats completely open and unobstructed.

Steering is power assisted on all models enhancing manoeuvrability whilst the steering column is height adjustable. Remote controls for the stereo/cassette are also conveniently located on the steering boss.

Despite its exceptional roominess, Synergie occupies no more roadspace than a family saloon. In fact, it's only 1 cm longer and 6cm wider than the Citroën Xantia saloon.

The protection of everyone who travels in Synergie was a vital consideration in its design. So Synergie has a great many active and passive safety measures designed to ensure your safety in an emergency or to help you bypass dangers altogether.

Synergie's commanding, slighty elevated driving position gives you extra visibility, confidence and control even in congested city traffic. Whilst a choice of two highly refined, flexible, performance engines (either 123hp 2.0i petrol or 92hp 1.9 turbo dieel) gives Synergie reserves of power and acceleration to cope with the demands of motorway and A-road driving. Equally importantly Synergie handles at speed with precision and assurance whatever the load. Its ride, roadholding, handling and directional stability are irreproachable, just as you would expect from a Citroën and ensures that the driver remains comfortably in control at all times.

But for the kind of problem you can't avoid, Synergie is endowed with a massively strong and robust body structure with built in roll bars. Additionally, all models are fitted with a driver's airbag and front seat belt pre-tensioners as standard. The pre-tensioners have sensors which detect sudden deceleration and rewind up to 10cm of slack in the belts in under 25 milliseconds. This action pulls front seat occupants firmly back in their eats away from the dashboard danger zone. meanwhile, separate sensors activate the airbag which fully inflates to a volume of 45 litres in under 50 milliseconds - deflating when the driver's head and chest make contact in order to cushion the impact. Once the vehicle has stopped, the belt tension is automatically released.

But, apart from effectively safeguarding its passengers, Synergie also enjoys a high degree of protection itself. To guard against theft, all models are fitted with a remote control central locking system with deadlocks on all five doors. Additionally all models feature a sophisticated anti-theft engine immobiliser. This disables the engine, preventing the car from being started until the driver's own unique code is entered via the flip-out keypad which is mounted in the lower dash. An anti-theft alarm, available as an optional dealer fit accessory, further enhances Synergie's standard security measures.

To keep your in-car entertainment in your car, the security coded eight speaker stereo radio/cassette system with RDS is fully integrated into the dashboard and features a special security flap to keep it hidden from prying eyes. In short, virtually everything has been considered to keep your car safe from intruders.

Other clever safety and security measures include an electronic display on SX and VSX models that warns you of incorrectly shut doors and child-proof safety locks on the sliding doors. Thus, with hazards avoided, risks reduced and potential trouble-spots eliminated altogether, you'll have the confidence to head exactly where your sense of adventure takes you.
